A.O. MATTSON POST 25
VETERANS stRENGTHENING THE COMMUNITY & AMERICA since 1919.
Area World War I veterans founded the Warroad American Legion (A. O. Mattson Post 25) in October 1919, just one month after Congress chartered the American Legion as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to service to veterans, servicemembers, and communities. Around that time, the family of soldier Andrew Olaf Mattson (Swift) was informed he had died the year prior in the last campaign of the war: the Battle of the Argonne Forest in France. The new legionnaires promptly named the post after their fallen brother.
The Warroad Legion remains committed to supporting veterans and our community. The honor guard is present at veteran funerals, and the color guard advances the American flag at patriotic ceremonies like the Memorial Day service and the Fourth of July parade. Through charitable gaming, funds are raised for Boy, Girl, and Cub Scouts; Legion baseball; and many local causes and organizations. The Legion directs veterans to the resources and benefits they earned through their service, and the venue provides a gathering space for the community.
The Post is also home to meetings of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Warroad VFW, and other organizations, like the Lion’s Club. If you are interested in renting space for meetings, or if you are a veteran interested in joining the Legion, stop by the post or give us a call.
